Windows7 Beta test review

Microsoft Windows7 Beta test review (build 7000)

I’ve installed it in 20 minutes or less. It now has an uptime of more than 11 hours without a crash.

More faster than Vista, it uses about 500MB of RAM when it starts, not 850MB like Vista. With all the aplications I need opened it uses about 1GB of RAM. It uses about 12GB of space.

Test system: my old Acer Aspire 5101, Turion64@2ghz, 2GB ram (256 used for video), 60GB hdd, ATI x1100@265MB RAM shared, Atheros Wifi. It detected everything except the card reader. I didn’t installed any drivers, I was afraid not to crash it.

What works: Winamp, Firefox, Chrome (with a small tweak),Opera, Yahoo messenger, Picasa3, XNview, Total Commander, Keepass, Thunderbird, Avast Antivirus, GIMP, mIRC, OpenOffice, MAME roms, Photoshop 7.

What doesn’t work: Counter Strike (from STEAM, I didn’t try other games), NERO

I trust it more than Vista for now. Let’s see how it holds in time. I already use it for production (but I keep backups). Lots of changes from Windows Vista. The Menu from Control Panel is the same lame one that Vista uses, usability 0, every Windows’s admin nightmare (XP one was better).

I recommend it to all the people that know how to keep backups.

I’m here if you have other questions.

DreamHost can’t handle it

Dreamhost launched a promo with 95% off if you paid for two years. That worked out to almost $11 with one domain name included.
But guess what happened: They had so much traffic that their frontpage went to a crawl, their signup page was down and so was their main web hosting panel.

Talk about hype!

P.S: the promo code is “220″ or “202″. It may still be active.

P.S2: I signed up for an account. This will give me another host to review for the next two years.
